Eight Ways to Use School Wikis

After reading "Eight Ways to Use School Wikis" on the website Technology and Learning, I began to see how wikis can be a valuable resource for educators. In terms of collaborating with colleagues, wikis can save a tremendous amount of time and resources. For example, posting forms and other information on the wiki uses less paper than having to make copies of a document for everyone, including some who might not need it. I especially liked the idea of teachers from the same subject area posting their lesson plans for other teachers to view. This would be so much more convenient than trying to schedule time for a face-to-face meeting to share ideas. In addition, I had never considered putting all my files in such a place. Even though there is a method to the madness on my desk and in my filing cabinet, it would be much more efficient to post these documents. Not only are wikis great for teachers, but they are also great for students. If a student misses a day, he/she could simply get the assignments from the wiki. It would be a great tool for collaboration on group projects as well.
