    sharecroppers.

    They had no shoes, people were poor, Sharecroppers’ kids suffered from rickets and malnutrition

    2. Define sharecropping.
    A system of agriculture in which a landowner allows a tenant to use land in return for share of the crop produced on the land.

    3. How is sharecropping similar to slavery?
    Most of the blacks lived in shacks, tried to raise enough food to keep from starving and get by from day to day.

    4. If slavery is illegal, how is sharecropping legal?
    The people are being paid for their work

    5. Describe the traps that tied sharecroppers to the land.

    6. What groups do the KKK oppose?
    They became a terrorist, mayors, judges, sheriffs, common criminals

    7. During what time period did the KKK have the most political power?
    The middle of 1920s

    8. What things did the KKK do to frighten people and maintain power over nonwhites?
    They beat, whipped, murdered, and gunned African Americans

    9. Imagine the reaction of a man being hunted by the KKK. How would it be different for his wife? for his children?
    It would be the same for the wife and children

    10. Mob violence occurs when a group of people become focused on a violent plan, and "feed" off one another in
    their excitement. Soon no one person can stop the violent events from taking place. What examples of mob
    violence can you think of from recent times? If you can't think of any, write a fictional event demonstrating mob
    violence.

    To prevent black citizens from improving their status or achieving equality
