Your task is to experience and express the patriotic feelings that the United States was feeling during World War II. There are a few websites that you may find useful:

  • History Place
  • Ames Historical Society
  • Archives.gov (See the posters at Powers of Persuasion)

1. What were the beliefs of the Nazi Party?


2. Why and when did the United States enter into WWII?


3. What is rationing? (State 3 items they had to ration)


4. Review the U.S. propaganda posters. What messages are they trying to send to Americans at the time?


5. What was the United States government's rationale for "isolating" the Japanese-Americans?

Read Franklin Roosevelt's "A Date Which Will Live in Infamy" speech. As you read through FDR's speech, find at least 3 phrases that might explain why the US government chose to imprison Japanese-Americans.
